This reflects changes that have been made at the stations over the last several months.

MANAGEMENT

Zeke Chaidez is the new general manager at KDAY/LA and Derek Beesemyer the new general sales manager. Prior to joining KDAY, Chaidez was the coo of Heftel Media and also held positions at Club Deportivo Chivas USA, Radiovisa and was gsm at Spanish-language KSCA. Beesemyer was previously with KSPN and KLOS and served as both national and local sales manager at KLSX/KRLA. Market Manager Karla Santos has exited the station.

KDAY has also added Brian Bridgeman as OM. Bridgeman previously worked as pd at KKRZ/Portland, KHKS/Dallas and WIOQ/Philadelphia and was also apd at KIIS FM/LA in the late 80’s.


Jason Wilberding
joins Premiere Radio Networks as VP of Western Region Sales in LA and will report to Executive VP/Sales Carol Terakawa. Wilberding previously held posts as vp/dos for Interep’s D&R Radio Sales, SBS stations KXOL/ KLAX/, and CBS Radio’s KTWV as gsm. He returns to radio from Tribune’s LA Times Media Group where he was national advertising director.




Jason Strongin

After thirteen years with Clear Channel, Bob Scott has moved across town to be general sales manager at Smooth Jazz KTWV, the WAVE.

Mark Kallen has been promoted from local sales manager to general sales manager of JACK/fm. Scott Springer, who took on the additional duties of DOS for the CBS/LA cluster in addition to his lsm dutes at KROQ, will return to his lsm post at KROQ while CBS searches for a full time DOS.

Steve Garsh is the new market manager at El Dorado Broadcasters Victorville stations KATJ-FM, KIXA-FM, KIXW-AM, KRSX-FM and KZXY-FM. He replaces Tom Hoyt who has moved to the market manager post at Amaturo JILL/fm stations KAJL/KJLL/KHJL. Bob Visotcky, who held the post previously, has exited the Jill FM stations. In addition, Linda Perry is the new Station Manager for the Thousand Oaks Jill FM station.

JACK/fm general sales manager John Ryan has exited the station. Ryan has had various positions including gsm at Mega 100, ten years at KKBT ("The BEAT") when Chancellor owned it and John was general manager at 1540/The Ticket.



Roman Gwin
, former local sales manager at KIIS, KOST and KBIG has joined Metro Traffic as director of sales sales.





Diana Delgado
has been appointed VP of Corporate Sales for Spanish language Lazer Broadcasting based out of Oxnard, California. She will oversee ten markets that include Oxnard, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Santa Maria, Salinas, Reno, Bakersfield, San Bernardino/Riverside and Imperial Valley. Diana has been in radio industry for over 18 years and has also has owned a radio station prior to joining Lazer Broadcasting.

After 8 years of doing affiliate sales for talk at Jones Radio Networks and then a little over a year at Dial-Global, Debbie Greenbaum has been laid off. You can contact her at 310-204-4560 or  debbiegreenbaum@hotmail.com.

KSWD-FM/The Sound has added Eric Holmes to its staff as Programming Assistant, effective August 24. Holmes spent the last three years as Director of Music and Promotions at Jacobs Media and prior to that was Music Director at WWCD-FM in Columbus, Ohio.

KYSR promotes Darren Rose To APD, Josh Venable to MD.

Phillip Woodie is the new president of Lotus Entravision Reps, the rep firm which sells national ad time for about 125 Spanish-language radio stations. Mary Hawley has been appointed VP of western regional sales, and will focus her efforts on the key Los Angeles market. Previously, Woodie was director of sales and marketing of multicultural networks at Comcast Spotlight.

ON THE AIR

Frosty, Heidi and Frank made their debut on KABC October 5 and now occupy the 9:00 am – noon slot following Peter Tilden 5:00 – 9:00 am.  In addition, Michael Jackson returns to KABC for “Financial Insider Radio with Michael Jackson” featuring two financial advisors, Greg Kushner and Gregory S. Heller.

Former KROQer and MTV vj Lisa (Virgin) Kennedy Montgomery is leaving the evening show at KFI due to her many commitments. She will remain on-air in morning drive on 98.7 and will fill in on KFI as her schedule allows. Bryan Suits will continue solo at night.   



Reporter Suzanne Grant has been appointed news director at KUZZ AM/FM and KCWR/fm-Bakersfield, succeeding Mark Howell, who retired on October 2nd after 21 years in the position. Grant has been the stations’ morning reporter since July 2007.


Doug McIntyre has exited the morning show at KABC. Familiar KABC personality Peter Tilden returns to the slot where he has worked before with Ken Minyard, Tracey Miller and Robin Abcarian.

To complete its preparation for becoming the flagship station for the Los Angeles Lakers, KSPN-AM has brought in a new midday team and moved Steve Mason and John Ireland back to afternoon drive to accommodate the new program. 

6-foot, 10-inch Mychal Thompson – currently radio analyst for Lakers broadcasts – once served as a power forward and backup center for the “Showtime” era of the local NBA franchise.  The other member of this new team is Andrew Siciliano, who has been seen and heard on both radio and tv, with his appearances on DirecTV’s Red Zone NFL show, ESPN-TV’s Jim Rome is Burning, Final Score on Fox Sports television, and periodic guest host for Jim Rome’s nationally syndicated radio program. Now the two serve as co-hosts of “L.A. Sports Live,” the latest midday offering on KSPN (710/ESPN). 

MY/fm morning man Sean Valentine has added a morning drive show on AC WLIT-Chicago to his schedule. His sidekick Irma Blanco will join him in the Chicago broadcast. The operations manager for the CC Chicago cluster is Tony Coles, who worked at KBIG a decade ago. From 2001 to 2003, Valentine was the morning drive host at Clear Channel’s Top 40 WKSC/fm-Chicago.

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has moved from KFI to KFWB to be the centerpiece of the station’s new News/Talk format. Dr. Laura will be heard on KFWB from noon to 3 p.m. Former San Diego mayor Roger Hedgecock takes over afternoon drive (3 p.m. - 6 p.m.) at KFWB following Dr. Laura.

The new KFWB line-up will be:
6-9 am Local news presented by Phil Hulett and Penny Griego
9-noon Laura Ingraham
Noon-3 pm Dr. Laura Schlessinger
3-6 pm Roger Hedgecock
6-9 pm Michael Smerconish
Local news updates will also be broadcast at the top of every hour 24 hours a day, seven days a week provided by Paul Lowe, Michael Shappee and Maggie McKay.

KFWB staffers that have lost their jobs in the format change include newsmen John Brooks, Bill Cooper and Ed Mertz, news director Paul Gomez; news anchors and reporters: Laura Gregory, Steve Kindred, Andi Marshall, Tammy Trujillo, Jan Stevens, Tracie Savage, Steve Lentz, and Ken Jeffries; news writers Eric Williams, Darrell Satzman, Diane Dray and Sue Stiles; and support staff: Leyla Gulen, Erik Webb, Nikki Bonner, and Charlene Wallace.

KNX staffers that have exited the station include Vytas Safroncikas and evening anchor Larry Van, who is replaced by Bill Polish from KFWB. Others let go include reporters Todd Leitz and Karen Zarzadiaz, plus sports guys Chris Madsen and Joe Cala. Pete Demetriou from KFWB will join the KNX news staff.
 
Beginning August 31, Clear Channel Hot AC KMYI (Star 94.1) replaced 25-year market fixtures, “Jeff and Jer”, with AJ in the Morning” hosted by AJ Machado.

Dial Global has talent changes at its Kool Gold and Bright AC – which is now “Hot AC.” The new Hot AC lineup starts off with Dave Otto in mornings, followed by Bradley Wright at midday, Zack Taylor in PM drive and Cooper Lawrence for evenings. Over at Kool Gold, personality C.J. Stone leaves after 20 years with the operation and its predecessors. The 5-10pm shift had been done out of Valencia, CA and will now be filled by Peter McLaine at the former Jones facility in the Denver area. Peter had been doing work at the Bright AC format.

Ben Maller was re-hired this week by Fox Sports Radio. He will be hosting the weekend overnight show on the FSN, which is carried locally on KLAC.

Alex Cohen, the former co-host of National Public Radio’s Day to Day, has joined KPCC’s local broadcast of NPR’s All Things Considered, which airs during afternoon drive. Cohen will also anchor the station’s broadcasts of American Public Media’s Marketplace, which airs weekdays at 3:00 and 6:30 p.m. Former afternooner, Shirley Jihad, returned to reporting and weekend work.

Bill Handel now has a second show on KFI. Following his longtime morning drive show from 5 to 9 a.m., he returns at noon for a two-hour live show that is syndicated across the country. With the shift changes, John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou add one hour to their afternoon drive show, starting at 2 p.m. and going to 7 p.m.

GETTING PERSONAL


Congratulations to Wingman Media’s Rich Kagan and Taulene on their new little girl, Kasey Bella Kagan (left) 7lbs. 2oz. born October 9th at 4:02am.

PASSINGS

Joe Tourtelot, former owner and general manager of KDES radio in Palm Springs passed away peacefully in Colorado on September 20 after a short but fierce battle with cancer. Joe was very involved in the Palm Springs community, serving as a volunteer with the Coachella Valley Broadcasters Assn., United Way of the Desert, The Community Blood Bank, the Palm Springs Jaycees, and the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, where he was one of the first of many independent businessmen to become a member. He was the Founder and past president of the Advertising Federation of the Desert and was instrumental in setting up the local emergency broadcast system.

Bob Jackson, former LA Radio Country personality, passed away October 3, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was 79. Bob worked at KBBQ from 1967 – 70 and KLAC from 1971 – 73. 
Prior to Los Angeles radio, Bob was known in San Diego as Robin Scott at KDEO and KCBQ and was also previously pd at KRAM-Las Vegas. Born in Oklahoma, Bob spent a decade in San Francisco when he left the Southland in the mid-1970s. He worked with Metromedia and Malrite. In 1989 Bob joined the Satellite Music Network in Phoenix. Later he moved to Wichita Falls, where he spent his remaining years writing songs, singing and playing the sax.

Roy Lindau passed away on September 25 at his home in Croton-on the–Hudson, New York, emailed Paul Cassidy, veteran of KFWB, KHJ, KLOS, 10-Q, and KWST. “Roy had a re-occurring cancer that finally took his wonderful life. Roy was sales manager of KFWB during its heyday run over Aldo’s Restaurant in the late 60’s and 70’s. He was always ahead of the game and a true clairvoyant. Roy later worked with Major Market Radio Reps in New York City. We were able to see each other 2 years ago, with a day trip to the Saratoga Race Track.” [LARadio.com]

Rod Van Hook, veteran sports broadcaster for over three decades, died on Saturday from complications associated with his three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 61. Locally, Rod worked at KFWB, KSPN, Sports USA Radio, and 710/KMPC. In 1995 he won a Golden Mike for best sportscast and an AP award. Rod has been the recipient of three L.A. Press Club awards.  At his most recent job, Sports USA Radio, Rod was a studio host for NFL and NCAA broadcasts. The veteran Los Angeles broadcaster has covered all major sporting events including four Super Bowls, the BCS title game, the World Series, UCLA and USC football, and the Los Angeles Lakers.
